Casualties of War (1989) IMDB rating: 6.80 Plot: During the Vietnam war, a girl is taken from her village by five American soldiers. Four of the soldiers rape her, but the fifth refuses. The young girl is killed. The fifth soldier is determined that justice will be done. The film is more about the realities of war, rather than this single event.

Why do many natural disasters look alike these days?
They have many things in common:

-media blackout…for a while, then controlled media images
-slow to no response, maximizing casualties
-all crucial infrastructure destroyed–leaving people without police, hospitals, clean water, communications, etc.
-people with strange burns, keloid scars, whitened burned skin, dead continuously burning bodies, discolored bodies, charred bodies, etc.
-spontaneous fires
-when there is finally a response, it is treated as a war zone–often met with military action
-contractors get lucrative rebuilding contracts but do nothing but wait for years–almost as though they are waiting for something to end before they rebuild

‘Little Mermaid’ kicks off family series today in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Community Arts Center kicks off its third EnterAct Family Series with “The Little Mermaid,” a touring production of the Lexington Children’s Theatre.

The adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic was written by British children’s writer Mike Kenny.

Kenny was included in the London Independent on Sunday’s list of Top Ten Living U.K. Playwrights, and his plays are performed regularly all over the world.

“The Lexington Children’s Theatre has been around since 1938, and we currently produce 11 shows a year geared toward children,” said spokeswoman Lesley Farmer.

Of these 11 shows, the company chooses two to be part of its touring program. This year, she said, the troupe is touring “The Legend of John Henry” along with “The Little Mermaid.”

The play is performed by three actors playing a variety of roles and is “most enjoyed” by children ages 4 and older, Farmer said.
